Hoes:

#1600L03

These are your socks!  There are a few variations of cut cloth hoes.  Single seam, double seam or heel gores.

Stays / Corsets:

#1600L04

Start at $275 to sew + materials

17th century corsets or stays are fully boned. They slightly reduce the waist (0” - 3”) and flatten the bust creating a conical torso. The bottom front dips low, while the sides and back are cut at the natural waistline. Corsets are cut low in front and high under the arms creating a very upright posture. It was more common to have straps than not. Optional tabs at the waist provide support for heavy skirts and make the garment more comfortable to wear.  Front lacing only.

The stays and bodice are often the same garment.  This is also known as a boned bodice.  Boned bodices are lightly boned, but provide ample support.
Sleeveless starts at $125
Sleeved starts at $120
Buckram or horsehair interlinings can be added for additional support, $25 + materials.

French Farthingale

Wheel:

#1600L05
$100 full length

$60 1/2 length (above knees)
cane, metal banding

The Wheel or Drum farthingale (above) is a cylindrical construction made from metal banding or cane radiating out from the waist and falling to the floor.  Our French farthingale has a drawstring waist and 3 hoops to help it hold it's shape.  Our choice of cotton or linen fabric.

Bum roll:

#1600L06

$30 to sew + materials
+ $50 wool batting

The Bumroll is a stuffed pad that is full in the back and tapers to points in the front, it ties around the waist and can be worn to support a wheel or by itself to add volume to a skirt.  Skirts must be specially made to go over farthingales, or they ride high in the back.

Our bumrolls are made from cotton or linen and stuffed with cotton polyfill batting or washed wool.  I recommend the polyfill as it doesn't smell when damp, but if you are looking for accuracy go for the wool!

C-shaped bumroll is full in back & tapers to the front ties with twill tape & can be small or large, thin or full.  You can wear it high at the waist or low on the hips for different looks.  Combine it with the French or Spanish Farthingale for added volume or support.

Spanish Farthingale:

#1600L07
$100

cane, metal banding
+ $50 vertical supports

The Spanish farthingale came first and exited last, it’s a conical gored skirt with hoop supports and a drawstring waist.  Informal farthingales end at mid-calf, formal farthingales go to the ankle.

Cane hoops are lightweight and moderately flexible. Metal banding is heavier but very flexible and more durable. All hoops are removable for laundering.  If you are using this for theatre or costume, electrical or duck tape is the easiest and least expensive way to secure the hoops.

Our choice of cotton or linen fabric.

Unless specifically requested our farthingales are made with horizontal hoops only.  Original Spanish farthingales had both horizontal hoops and vertical supports that made the garment very stiff.

Petticoat:
#1600L11
$40 to sew + materials
Linen, wool, silk, cotton
Quilted Starts at $150
Corded Starts at $100

Petticoats were worn under skirts and gowns to add extra volume or warmth and to soften the lines of a farthingale.  Fitted or drawstring waistbands.
